St Mary the Virgin, Stebbing

STEBBING, a parish in the hundred of HINCKFORD, county of ESSEX, 3¼ miles (N E by E) from Great Dunmow, containing 1311 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the jurisdiction of the Commissary of Essex and Herts, concurrently with the Consistorial. Court of the Bishop of London, rated in the king’s books at £12. Thomas Batt, Esq was patron in 1802. The church, dedicated to St Mary, has lately received an addition of one hundred and forty free sittings, the Incorporated Society for the enlargement of churches and chapels having granted £30 towards defraying the expense. There is a place of worship for Independents.
